    Anxiety

Is anxiety taking over your life? Does it feel like you can’t control it no matter how hard you try? Anxiety (the emotion) is a normal human reaction to the stressors life presents. We all worry or feel nervous at certain times in our lives. We also need (some) anxiety to help us perform at our best at sporting events, performances, public speaking, or when we go on that date. But, if we have too much anxiety, and it persists, then it can become hugely problematic.

Anxiety disorders can significantly impact a person’s day-to-day life. People can struggle with school, work, social situations, or indeed everything they do. Prolonged anxiety can also seriously impact our relationships with friends and family.

While anxiety medications can (potentially) have some short-term benefits, they are limited, and can also have potential negative side-effects. To the contrary, psychological treatment is highly effective at treating anxiety.

    Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviours (BFRBs)

Common BFRBs include hair pulling, skin picking, nail biting, and cheek biting. Other body-focused repetitive behaviours include hair eating, nail picking, skin biting, lip biting, tongue chewing, and hair cutting.

BFRBs are very confusing. On the one hand, people hate that that they do this to themselves, on the other, they love these behaviours too. They hate the social stigma, the loss of time, the impact on relationships, and the shame. But they love how it makes them feel – these are self-soothing behaviours, after all.

Dr. Corrick Woodfin specializes in treating BFRBs.

    Insomnia

The impact of sleep loss can be devastating. Many of our clients seek us out because of the negative impact sleep loss has on their cognitive functioning: thinking is slower, concentration is non-existent, and they are less able to manage their emotions. Have you noticed that you’re less co-ordinated when you’ve lost sleep? You may even fall asleep unexpectedly, which can be hazardous to you and others, particularly if you experience micro-sleeps when you are driving. Sleep loss can be a significant contributing factor to the onset of burn-out and relationship difficulties.

Ms. Katherine Schurer specializes in the treatment of insomnia.

    Life Transitions

There’s no denying that life often presents us with more than our fair share of challenges, usually in the form of sudden change. These life transitions, even the positive ones, can throw us into a tailspin and leave us feeling stressed, confused, and vulnerable. But with the right tools and mindset, you have the power to not only overcome any adversity but also transform into a more authentic and confident version of yourself.

    Individual Therapy

Are you having a difficult time handling the struggles in your life? Could you use an expert opinion on what you’re going through, or a non-judgmental ear just to listen? Do you think you could benefit the most from individualized attention? Are you hesitant to talk to others about your problems? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then individual therapy could be the solution you’ve been seeking. Individual therapy differs from group therapy, in that, you are the sole focus of a single therapist who helps you develop and achieve your goals for therapy.
